For many years, Jerry Beitz, who is wearing a sports jacket in this black-and-white photo, was the communications director of the Tacoma Athletic Commission. Beitz, who graduated from Puyallup High School in 1947, was also a vice president of the TAC and was committed to their mission over the years of supporting youth sports. On his jacket in this photo, Beitz, who was born in 1928 and died in 2008, has a patch that says Tacoma Athletic Commission director. Since it began in 1945, TAC has been a sports-minded civic organization that has raised and donated money, hosted events and presented awards. It is dedicated to youth and sports. Throughout the year, TAC presents Athletes of the Year awards to every high school and every sport in Pierce County.Lexicon
