Description

Mac Wilkins is one of the most decorated track and field athletes in throwing events in United States history. Wilkins, who attended Clover Park High School, went on to compete for the University of Oregon, winning the NCAA discus championship as a senior. That season he also won the first of his eight U.S. national discus championships. Wilkins won the gold medal in the discus at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and won the silver medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He won the gold medal in the discus at the 1979 Pan American Games. Wilkins broke the world discus record four times in his career, including a stretch where he set the world record with three consecutive throws in San Jose, California, in 1976. Wilkins also won the national indoor championship in the shot put in 1977.
