With Mount Rainier as the backdrop, here is a black-and-white photo of Paradise Lodge that was taken in the mid 1930s. In 1916, the 121-room Paradise Lodge was built, just a year after a 27-mile road was constructed through the woods and the inn opened in 1917. President Truman visited Paradise Lodge in 1945 and he played the piano that is still in the lodge. Paradise is the starting point for most of the 10,000 hikers who attempt to climb Mount Rainier each year.Made/Created
