Skiers explore the slopes near Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park in 1929. Paradise was the site of the first recorded ski trips and snow sports competitions in Pierce County. The first documented ski trip in Washington took place at Mount Rainier in the early 1900s according to National Geographic and The News Tribune.
