Mount Rainier rises above Paradise where skiers often visited to play on the slopes. The famous Silver Skis Race saw skiers hike to Camp Muir (Not visible, but located to the far right in this image) then race back to Paradise. The first race was in 1934. Skiing historian Lowell Skoog called it “the wildest ski race ever held in North America.”Lexicon
