Description

Skiers take in the view of the Tatoosh Range from the slopes near Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park. Pierce County’s first recorded skiing trips and snow sports competitions took place at Mount Rainier in the early 1900s, according to The News Tribune. Paradise still draws hundreds of skiers on winter weekends, but the ski lifts that once towed skiers up the slopes are long gone.
