With a snow-covered Paradise Lodge in the background, three skiers speed down the slope by the hotel, having fun as they go. Paradise Lodge opened in 1917 and was originally planned to be built at Longmire. But plans were changed and the 150-room hotel was built at Paradise at 5,500 feet. The hotel today is a popular starting point for the 10,000 climbers who attempt to climb the 14,500-foot Mount Rainier each year. In 2006, the hotel was closed for two years for some major renovations that cost $30 million. President Truman visited Paradise Inn in June 1945.Made/Created
