Hannah Little, left, and Hyjlamar Hvam pose for a picture while skiing at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park. Hvam, a Nordic skiing legend, coached the U.S. Nordic team at the 1952 Winter Olympics. The Norweigan-American is credited with inventing the ski binding. He won ski races at Rainier and around the Northwest. He won the national title in the Nordic combined in 1932. He qualified for the 1936 U.S. Olympic team in an event at Rainier in '35, but couldn't compete because he was a Norweigan citizen. He died in 1996.Lexicon
