Stan Olsen shreds the snowy slopes at Paradise on Mount Rainier. Mount Rainier was a popular skiing destination in the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s. The National Park Service fought off efforts to build a ski resort in the park, preferring to preserve the natural setting. Crystal Mountain opened just outside the park in 1962.Lexicon
