Broadcaster Jerry Geehan, left, and Ben Cheney relax at Cheney's home in Scottsdale, Ariz, shortly after Cheney Stadium was completed in 1960. Cheney, founder of Cheney Lumber Company, owned 11 percent of the San Francisco Giants and partially paid for the construction of Cheney Stadium, home of the Tacoma Rainiers. Geehan, a Lincoln High School graduate, became the first broadcaster for the Tacoma Tigers of the Western International League in 1937. Geehan went to hold several executive positions in radio and television, and was chairman of the Board of Washington State Association of Broadcasters.
