Description

Before becoming the Pierce County Sheriff, Frank Stojack was a world light heavyweight wrestling champion and standout football player. A Wycliffe, B.C., Canada native, Stojack moved to Tacoma as a child and graduated from Lincoln High School. After graduating from Washington State, Stojack played in the National Football League for the Brooklyn Dodgers for two seasons then moved on to the CFL in 1940 for the Boeing Aero Mechanics semi-pro team. Stojack became a professional wrestler when his football career ended. He went on to win the first of four Pacific Coast Junior Heavyweight Championships in 1947, was the 1953 light heavyweight world champion — beating Gypsy Joe in Spokane and holding the title until 1957. Stojack was elected to the Tacoma City Council in 1953 and continued to wrestle. Following his council term, Stojack ran for sheriff and remained until 1962.
