Ulysses Aubry, a Tacoma native, was a race car driver pre-1920s and is shown in a race car from that era. Aubry, 27, and his mechanic, Frank Lake, were killed in a pursuit race in Portland a the Rose City speedway when their car left the track and plunged through a fence. Aubry was buried in Tacoma. Aubry was the son of J.E. Aubry of Aubry Wagon and Auto Works. Ulysses Aubry was an accomplished racer, winning the Independence Day race in 1916 in his custom-built “Tacoma Special” at the Tacoma Speedway. Photos donated by Bill Kowalski.
