1938 Soap Box Derby Championship Dinner in Tacoma. The photo was donated by Ed “Harold” Freiter, who was the champion of the Tacoma Soap Box Derby race in 1938. The soap box derby began in 1934 in Dayton, Ohio, and caught on nationally, drawing 70,000 fans each year through the 1950s and 1960s.
