Description

This autographed yellow flag was on the pin of the 12 hole at the 2007 U.S. Girls Junior Golf Championship that was held in Lakewood on the Tacoma Country & Golf Course. Kimberly Kim won that tournament and there were 870 entries. The following year, the tournament moved across the country and was held in West Hartford, Connecticut. The first U.S. Girls' Junior Championship was held in 1949. That inaugural tournament was held at Philadelphia Country Club, one of the oldest golf courses in the country. There were only 28 girls that competed in that first tournament. Gradually, the tournament grew over the years. In 1962, the girls championship topped 100 entries for the first time when the tournament had 119 entries. In 1996, the tournament draw took a big jump as it drew 618, nearly 400 more than from the previous year. The championship tournament has topped 1,000 entries each of the past 10 years.
