Description

This softball bat was used by Dick Zierman in the national slowpitch softball tournament in Jones Beach back in 1968. Zierman, who was a three-sport starter at Lincoln High School, was named to 14 all-star teams playing softball in Tacoma and played on a number of teams that reached nationals. Bob Young, who grew up in Tacoma, also had a long and successful career in slowpitch softball and was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. In 1964, Young started playing with the Pine Tavern and later played with the Players Tavern in 1965 to 1966. He developed into one of the top pitchers in the state when he pitched for the powerful Heidelberg slowpitch team from 1967 to 1975. With Young pitching, Heidelberg won seven Northwest Regional Championships and he pitched in seven straight national tournaments.
