Description

Legendary referees Tom Cross, left, and Lornie Merkle, right, posing for a picture in the officiating gear. Cross played for the Tacoma Mountaineers as well as was athletic supervisor of the Tacoma Metropolitan Park District and he retired as Pierce County's first Parks and Recreation director in 1981. Merkle graduated from Bellarmine High School in 1934, and he refereed many high school and Pac-8 games.
