Description

Umpire Lornie Merkle pointing out the rules to Cheney Studs baseball manager Doug McArthur with fellow umpire Frank Morrone looking on. Merkle graduated from Bellarmine High School in 1934, and became one of the most influential officials to come out of Tacoma, where he officiated from high school, recreational and college sports. McArthur is one of the forefathers for sports in the Puget Sound. McArthur also spent time serving in the Korean War where he graduated from the Armed Forces Information School, and was inducted into the Loggers Hall of Fame in 1998.
