Description

This is a patch Ron Billings earned for winning the 1948 Class B Baseball championship. Before he became a basketball coach at Lincoln Bowl in the 1950s, Billings was a three-sport starter in high school and at Pacific Lutheran College in the 1940s. During his 16 years as head boys basketball coach at Tacoma's Lincoln High School, Billings finished with an impressive 272-79 record and reached the state playoffs 11 times. The Abes won their first state championship in basketball in 1975. He was inducted into PLU's hall of fame in 1992 and into the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1996. Billings also coached at Tacoma Community College 11 seasons, winning conference titles in 1982, 1983 and 1986.
