From left, Trina Hosmer, Beth Bonner of West Virginia, Eileen Cornish, Gig Harbor’s Doris Brown Heritage, team and Seattle Pacific University coach Ken Foreman, Pamela Bagian of Michigan and Janet Bristol of Vermont. Heritage won the event and helped Team USA finished third. Brown graduated from Peninsula High and Seattle Pacific University. Her victory in Spain was her fifth consecutive world championship, one of the most notable accomplishments in a career that included a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run at the 1968 Mexico Olympics.
