Chuck Richards’ athlete credentials for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. The Stadium High graduate was the top American in the modern pentathlon at the ‘72 Games, finishing 9th and leading Team USA to a fourth place finish. Richards was especially strong in the swim, a sport he won six state tiles in at Stadium High. As a senior at Stadium, he held seven of the eight individual state records. He was a two-time All-America swimmer at Indiana University and won the 1967 junior modern pentathlon championship. At the Munich Games, Richards set an Olympic and World Record for the 300-meter modern pentathlon swim. The three-time national champ was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
