Stadium High graduate Herman Brix was an Olympian, a Rose Bowl participant and a movie star. At Stadium, he played basketball, football, soccer, track, swimming and acting. At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Brix had the build of Tarzan, a role he’d play in movies during the 1930s. He was a left tackle at the University of Washington from 1925-27 and earned all-coast honors. He blocked for All-American running backs George Wilson and Chuck Carroll. UW lost the 1926 Rose Bowl, 20-19, to Alabama. He was even more successful in track and field. In 1927 he threw 46 feet, 7 ? inches to win the NCAA title. A year later, a throw of 51-2 won the U.S. Trials and a trip to the Olympics in Amsterdam. At the Games, his throw of 51-8 set a world and Olympic record. However, it was broken 41 minutes later by fellow American Johnny Kuck. Brix took silver. He went on to become a movie star. He appeared in more than 150 films.Lexicon
