Description

B/w original print of George Henley in a hydroplane. He sits in cockpit with helmet and lifejacket. Highlights of my career: Starting racing outboards in 1955; moved up to inboards with a boat built by Bob Gilliam (Renegade) then in 1960 the Sidewinder, both in the 145cu.in class. 1963 drove Calypso -280 cu.in class. In 1966 bought the TideAir from Doug Tenzler of Tacoma, the last conventional hull Ron Jones Sr. built then 1969 started driving the cab-over 7litre Record Seven until I moved up to Unlimited status. 1970/71 drove Burien Lady, 1972/1973 drove the Lincoln Thrift and in 1974/1975 drove the PayNPak, owner David Heersperger of Kent, WA. Other sports I played: Western Regional Championship - Calypso 280 cu in Class - 1965 1967 Western Regional Championship in the TideAir, 225 Class. In 1969 won the US National Championship in the TideAir,225 Class. 1974 won Driver/Boat National Championship in the PayNPak. 1975 started driving the PayNPak late in the season and won the National Championship winning 5 of 7 races. Won the Gold Cup in 1974 and 1975. There are many wonderful people that have been there for me during my career in boat racing. I want to take this opportunity to thank all my friends, family and team-mates that kept all my boats running in peak performance. I look forward to sharing this honor with them. After winning the Presidents Cup in 1974, our team was invited back to meet with the President (Gerald Ford) at the time. A very special memory in my sports career.
