Description

Big Dale Hunter is the only player in NHL history to score more than 1,000 points and 3,000 penalty minutes in his career. Hunter, pictured in his Topps Stadium Club trading card donated by Roger and Carolyn Erickson, was a 1979 draft pick by the Quebec Nordiques where he played for seven years before being traded to Washington. Hunter spent 12 seasons with the Capitals and was named an All-Star in 1997. One of the most famous goals in Quebec history, it was Hunter who scored against Montreal goaltender Rick Wamsley 22 seconds into overtime for a 3-2 Nordiques win in the fifth and deciding game of the first-round series in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Capitals retired Hunter’s number on March 11, 2000. As a coach, Hunter led London to two Memorial Cup championships (2005, 2016) and coached Canada to a gold medal at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship.
