Description

Besides playing football, Frank Ruffo (right, standing next to coach Bill Hardie), played baseball in Tacoma for a number of teams over the years. In the 1930s, Ruffo played for the Tacoma Tigers and his career highlights include hitting a home run off of Glover Cleveland in a city league exhibition game and completing an unassisted triple play. Ruffo played in the 1937 National Championship semi-pro baseball tournament on Tacoma's Johnson Paint team, which was the first Tacoma team to compete in the national tournament and they placed fifth. Ruffo has also been the president of the Tacoma Athletic Commission.
