Description

This Curtis High School football team won the AAA state championship back in 1995 in record fashion by beating Kamiakin 49-7 in the state championship game. Curtis broke the record for the post points scored, breaking the previous record of 48 points set by Bellevue. Curtis's 42-point margin in victory also set the record for the widest victory gap, breaking the previous record of 34 points set by Mount Tahoma in their 37-3 win against Rogers in 1979. Curtis broke a third playoff record when the Vikings, who led 14-7 after the first quarter, exploded for 28 points in the third quarter to set the record for the most points in a quarter. Curtis, which was coached by Bob Lucey, finished the season with a 14-1 record. The next year in 1996, Curtis repeated as state champs when the Vikings defeated Richland 34-15 in another blowout win in the 3A state championship game. Lucey, who complied a 198-117 record over 30 seasons, has been inducted in the Washington State Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
