Description

Ahmad Rashad sits in the NBC studio during the Games of the XXIV Olympiad (the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea). Bobby Moore graduated from Mount Tahoma High School in 1968. Moore converted from Pentecostalism to Islam I 1972 and legally changed his name in 1973 to Ahmad Rashad, which means "admirable one led to truth" in Arabic. Moore, who was born in Portland, was a star wide receiver/running back/wingback for the Oregon Ducks and was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007. Moore was the No. 4 overall pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1972 NFL Draft and was named to the UPI all-rookie team. After two seasons with the Cardinals, Rashad was traded to the Buffalo Bills and played the 1974 season before sitting out the 1975 campaign because of a knee injury. Rashad signed as a free agent with the expansion Seattle Seahawks in 1976, but was traded before the start of the regular season to the Minnesota Vikings for defensive lineman Bob Lurtsema and a fourth-round draft pick in 1977, which the Seahawks used to select Tennessee All-American wide receiver Larry Seivers, who never played a regular-season game in the NFL. Rashad caught 495 passes for 6,831 yards and 44 touchdowns during his NFL career. He made a one-handed catch for a 46-yard touchdown on the final play known as the "Miracle at the Met" as the Vikings beat the Cleveland Browns 28-23 on Dec. 14, 1980. After retiring from the NFL, Rashad had a successful television career, covering NFL, NBA and MLB games as a studio anchor and game reporter for NBC and ABC. He also hosted NBA Inside Stuff for 16 seasons.
