Here is a color photo of the Tacoma Athletic Commission's annual Sports Hall of Fame banquet taken in the late 1960s or the early 1970s. Over the years, famous people like actor Andy Devine, NBA star Jack Nichols, NFL quarterback Joe Namath, NFL running back Hugh McElhenny and world heavyweight champ Freddie Steel would come and speak at the banquet. For 75 years, the TAC has been supportive of amateur sports for youth in Pierce County. The TAC has raised more than $6 million to support local sports.
