Walton started writing for the Tacoma Ledger in 1921 and moved onto the Tacoma News Tribune in 1937. He worked 43 with the Tribune Publishing Company and retired as the sports editor of the Tacoma News Tribune in 1964. Walton, who died in 1976, was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 1968 for sportswriting. Conners, a boxing promoter, was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame for boxing five years earlier in 1963.
