Sports icons share the head table at a Tacoma Athletic Commission event. Tacoma’s Gretchen Kunigk Fraser, left, was the first American to win an Olympic gold medal in alpine skiing. She won gold in the slalom and silver in the combined at the 1948 Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Len Casanova was a Hall of Fame college football coach. He was a beloved figure at the University of Oregon where he coached the Webfoots for 16 seasons and won a Rose Bowl. Clay Huntington was a Tacoma sportscaster and civic leader. Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch was a football legend for the Los Angeles Rams who was elected into the pro and college football halls of fame. And Tacoma’s Bob Johnson was an eight-time MLB all-star who played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators and Boston Red Sox.
