Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath was the guest speaker at a Tacoma Athletic Commission event in 1965. The TAC launched the Washington Sports Hall of Fame in 1960 and regularly brought celebrities to town for fundraisers and events. Namath won a national championship at the University of Alabama, a Super Bowl with the New York Jets and was one of the most famous sports figures of the 1960s and early ‘70s.
