In this black-and-white photo taken in 1960, Notre Dame football coach Frank Leahy is a special guest speaker at a Tacoma Athletic Commission gathering. Clay Huntington, a longtime supporter of sports in Tacoma, can be seen sitting behind Leahy. Leahy, who was born in 1908 and died in 1973, was the head football coach at Notre Dame from 1941 to 1943 and against from 1946 to 1953, compiling an impressive 107-13-9 record with the Irish. Huntington was a longtime radio sports announcer in Tacoma for more than 40 years. He was best known as the voice of the Tacoma Tigers from 1946 to 1951. He was one of the founders of the Tacoma Athletic Commission and initiated the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 1957.
