Four Tacoma Tigers kneel and smile for a photo taken in 1939. From left to right, the players are Herm Reich, unknown, Ralph Mountain and Morrey Abbott. Reich, who was born in California in 1917, had a brief and unusual major league experience. In his only major league season, Reich played for three teams in just 48 days. In 1949, he played three games with the Cleveland Indians, and three games with the Washington Senators and then went to the Chicago Cubs and finished the season. He became the Cubs starting first baseman and ended up batting .279 for the season. Before the following season in 1950, Herm, who died in 2009, was traded to the Chicago White Sox but did not play for them. He continued to play in the minor leagues for several more years.Lexicon
