Description

In this black-and-white photo taken in 1939, four Tacoma Tigers stand alongside a young boy laying on a hospital bed. From left to right, the players are Neil Clifford, Herm Reich, Bob Garretson and Hal Ryhne. Ten years after this photo was taken, Reich played briefly in the major leagues. In 1949, he played first base and right field for three major league teams in one season. He played one game for the Cleveland Indians and two games with the Washington Senators before getting traded to the Chicago Cubs. Before the 1950 season started, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox, but he didn't play for them and returned to the minor leagues. After playing baseball at Loyola Marymount University in the 1930s, Reich played in the minor leagues. Reich threw left handed but batted right handed. Garretson was the manager with the Tacoma Tigers in 1940.
