Freddie Steele was a world middle weight champion boxer in the 1930s and he then became a movie star in the 1940s. He appeared in a number of Hollywood movies in the 1940s, most notably in the Oscar-nominated Hail the Conquering Hero. He was also Sergeant Steve Warnicki in The Story of G.I. Joe. Steele was one of the three original inductees into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame when it opened in 1957.Lexicon
