Description

Pat “Irish” McMurtry autographed this photos for Johnny, advising him to “listen to his parents.” Pat did a good job of that himself. His father, Clarence, gave his two sons, Pat and Mike, boxing gloves for Christmas when they were just around 6 years old and encouraged them to get into boxing. Before going professional in 1954, Pat had a successful amateur career, piling up 103-2 record. Pat, who was born in 1932 and attended Lincoln High School, picked up a number of those wins at the first Golden Gloves tournaments in Tacoma in 1949 when he won his weight class. As a pro, he won his first 16 fights and finished with a 33-4-1 record.
