Description

Sid Williams began playing racquetball while working as a civilian employee at McChord Air Force Base. The Tacoma native, who grew up playing basketball and boxing at the Tacoma Boys Club, quickly grew to enjoy the sport. Williams, along with Art Redford and Dan Bueler, formed the Washington Racquetball Association. Williams was elected president and within a year the association had grown to 46 players, hosted its first international tournament at McChord AFB. Williams became the American Amateur Racquetball Associations regional director, hosting racquetball tournaments in Alaska, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Williams also developed an inner-city youth development program. In 1995, Williams and Ace Utaland won the men’s national 55+ Masters Doubles title. Williams and Kris Kaskawal finished second at the Hawaii World Outdoor One-Wall men’s ‘A’ division doubles racquetball championships, less than four years removed from back surgery. Williams won numerous senior, masters and golden masters titles at the local, state, regional and national level during his playing career and was inducted into the Tacoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Photo is autographed.
