Description

The circa 1960 Tacoma youth basketball team the Little Giants featured a young Bobby Moore, top left, who turned a standout career at Mount Tahoma High School into a football scholarship at the University of Oregon. While in Eugene he converted to Islam and change his name to Ahmad Rashad and would go on to be a first-team All-American and, after being selected fourth overall in the 1972 NFL Draft, was named to the Pro Bowl four times from 1978-81. He was eventually enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame, but might have gained even more cultural significance in the 1980s as an on-air personality for NBC, where he worked closely with Bob Costas as a studio anchor for NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball broadcasts. His close relationship with Michael Jordan led to many on-air interviews over the years and his marriage to Phylicia Rashad, female lead of the 1980s iconic “The Cosby Show” placed Rashad in the spotlight at least as much as his storied athletic career.
