Sam Baker, who attended Stadium High School, lets loose with a punt during a practice with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 1950s. After graduating from Corvallis High School in Oregon, Baker played football at Oregon State University and was an 11th round draft pick in the NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He was a versatile player in the NFL as he played fullback, kicked field goals and punted. As a punter, he averaged 42.6 yards a punt over his career. As a kicker, he led the NFL with 17 field goals in 1956 and he had the league's longest field goal at 49 yards. In 1957, he tied Cleveland Brown's fullback Jim Brown for the league lead in points scored with 77. He was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 and into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.Lexicon
