Olav Ulland, a standout ski jumper from Norway, opened Osborn and Ulland sporting goods in Seattle in 1941 (with help from friend Eddie Bauer).
At its peak in the 1980s, Osborn and Ulland had five stores in Washington -- including Tacoma -- and two in Oregon. The store was best known for its annual pre-ski season "Sniagrab" ("bargains" spelled backward) sale.
Ulland, competing for Norway, was the first ski jumper to break the 100-meter barrier by jumping 103.5 meters (339 feet) in Ponte di Legno, Italy, in 1935.Lexicon
