Description

After a near miss two years earlier, coach Don Moseid, center, standing over trophy, appears to be a truly happy man following the Tacoma Community College Titans defeat of Walla Walla Community College in the first championship game of the renamed Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges. The NWAAC win was especially satisfying after Moseid’s Titans had lost the Washington Athletic Association of Community Colleges title game two years earlier to Green River Community College. The win was seemingly an eventuality for Moseid, who had won at every level — a star player at Stadium and UPS before coaching Mount Tahoma to an undefeated season in 1965 — and had the Titans playing at a dominant level for much of his time at the school. Guards Tom Patnode and Don Martonik were the team’s leaders, the latter having originally been coached by Moseid as a high school player at Mount Tahoma. Moseid and both of his championship squads — this one and 1974 — were inducted into TCC first athletics Hall of Fame class in 2007.
