1949Description
California’s Duvall Hecht, left, and Stadium High graduate Jim Fifer, right, enjoyed plenty of success rowing together. In 1952, the former Stanford teammates advanced to the semifinals of the Helsinki Olympics with coxswain James Beggs. They returned to the Olympics in 1956, this time without a coxswain, and took gold. While they were outstroked in most of their races at the Melbourne Games, Fifer and Hecht won each race by more than eight seconds.Made/Created
