1951Description
In 1952, former Stanford teammates Duvall Hecht, left, and Jim Fifer, right, advanced to the semifinals of the Helsinki Olympics with coxswain James Beggs, center. Hecht, a California native, and Fifer, a Tacoma resident who graduated from Stadium High, rowed without a coxswain at the '56 Olympics and they took gold in the coxless pairs. While they were outstroked in most of their races at the Melbourne Games, Fifer and Hecht won each of their races by more than eight seconds.Lexicon
