Description

Stadium High graduate Chuck Richards competes in the riding competition of a modern pentathlon event in 1970. Richards, whose best modern pentathlon event was swimming, won the 1970, ‘71 and ‘72 national championships before advancing to the Munich Olympics. He started training for pentathlon in 1967 in San Antonio, where he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Army's medical service corps. He served a tour in Korea and followed the military tradition at the time of participating in modern pentathlon. It was a visit to a raquetball club in San Antonio in 1975 that inspired him to get involved in the health club industry, he once told clubinsideronline.com. He went on to open the Cornell Court Club in the Portland area. The facility is now called the Sunset Athletic club.
