Chuck Richards served in the Army after an All-American swimming career at the University of Indiana. It was in the service where the Stadium High graduate was introduced to the sport of modern pentathlon. The five-discipline competition includes shooting, running, equestrian show jumping, fencing and swimming events. The gifted swimmer went on to win national championships in 1970, ‘71 and ‘72 and compete in the 1972 Munich Olympics. He didn’t medal at the games, but he won the swimming portion of the competition in world record time. It was the final swimming race of his 18-year career.Lexicon
