Stadium High graduate Chuck Richards competes in the running portion of a modern pentathlon competition. Of the five events that make up the pentathlon, swimming was his strongest. He was a state champion at Stadium and an All-American at the University of Indiana. Running, however, didn't help his cause at the 1972 Olympics, where he finished ninth. During the competition, he finished first in the swim, but 35th of 59 competitors in the run. His time of 14 minutes, 0.7 second over the 4-kilometer course was 1:25 behind the fastest runner, Jim Fox of Great Britain.Lexicon
