Tacoma’s Chuck Richards poses for a photo in his Team USA shirt from the 1972 Olympics. Richards was the star of the modern pentathlon team at the Munich Games. He finished ninth overall while setting Olympic and world records in the swim. The three-time national champion led the team to a fourth-place finish. After his competitive career, the Stadium High graduate moved to Portland where he opened a gym in the suburb of Cedar Mill in 1977. He has spent much of his life promoting fitness. He raised thousands of dollars for the Oregon Sports Academy and amatuer and club sports. He served as president of the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.Lexicon
