Description

Jack Kearns, center, was a successful boxing manager and best known for guiding Jack Dempsey to the heavyweight title and helped open the “million dollar gates.” Kearns, who grew up in the Northwest, spent over 60 years in boxing. Kearns, nicknamed “Doc,” managed Dempsey when he was the heavyweight champ from 1919 to 1926. In this picture with Kearns, there's Elliot Metcalf on the left and Dan Walton on the right. They were longtime sportswriters for the Tacoma News Tribune.
