Ken Still pumps his fist in celebration after sinking a long putt at the U.S. Masters in 1971. Still joined the PGA Tour full time in 1960 and played for 23 years. Still tied for sixth place at the 1971 Masters, which was his best finish at a major. He had two top 10 finishes at major championships in his career. In his other top-10 finish, he placed fifth at the 1970 U.S. Open. In 1968, Still shot an opening-round 78 at the Houston Champions Invitational and booked a flight home in case he missed the cut. But he hung in there and rebounded with a 69 to make the cut by two strokes. It would have been easy to have quit, but that wasn't Still. “Never quit,” Still said. That was the approach he always took in his lengthy pro golf career, which began in 1958 a month after he graduated from Clover Park High School in 1953. After he went from a 17 handicap to a zero in a year and after he shot 21 straight rounds in the 60s he turned pro. When his finished playing on the PGA in 1983, he joined the Senior PGA and played another 11 years. A gregarious Still was a huge baseball fan and he became good friends of Sandy Koufax.Lexicon
