In a close finish, three riders race to the finish line of the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio. The center car was sponsored by the Tacoma News Tribune. The race for the national championship soap box derby has been held nearly every summer. Riders ages 11 to 17 build their own derby cars with the help of their dad and the cars are powered by gravity. Starting in early 1970s, nationals change from one division to three divisions and there were weight limitations. For stock cars and drivers it was 200 pounds, for super stocks and drivers it was 230 pounds and for masters and drivers it was 255 pounds.Lexicon
