Description

Jim Rondeau, wearing a suit and tie, stands next to a soldier in uniform as they talk before some elementary students at a local school during “United Nations Week.” Rondeau, who grew up in Tacoma, traveled the world refereeing some big-name fights and he refereed 19 world championship fights. In March 1974, he refereed the heavyweight championship fight between Kenny Norton and George Foreman in Caracus, Venzuela. Foreman beat Norton and went on to fight Muhammad Ali for the world titlt that year. Rondeau was also committed to doing amateur fights and over the years was a familiar face at the Tacoma Golden Gloves tournaments.
